Seth Rosenberg : The Cleveland Years On view September 10th, 2010 through January 9th, 2011
Organized by MOCA Cleveland; Curated by Margo Ann Crutchfield, Senior Curator
William D. Ginn Gallery
Originally from Connecticut, artist Seth Rosenberg lived in Washington, D.C. for more than 20 years before moving to Cleveland in 2005. During his Cleveland years, Rosenberg's abstract paintings, characterized by a vibrant color, patterning and dense layering, became increasingly figurative with overlays of images from diverse sources. Old scientific illustrations, antique graphics, numbers, words in a variety of typefaces, references to Social Realism in the 1930's, personal experiences, and topical events coalesce in his complex compositions. With their disjunctive but intriguing narratives, Rosenberg's paintings seem like richly coded puzzles, offering a challenge to decipher that produces a dynamic and enriching visual experience. This exhibition features a selection of Rosenberg's recent paintings and prints.
