Organized by MOCA Cleveland; Curated by Margo Ann Crutchfield, Senior Curator
Peter B. Lewis Gallery
The artist collective known as assume vivid astro focus (avaf) creates vibrant, visually intense collage-based environments, fusing elements of psychedelia, glam, kitsch and popular culture. A mix of abstract and figurative forms, avaf's sensorial murals and environments consist of fluid, brightly-colored overlapping shapes and images that stimulate a sensation of immediacy and immersion. The work represents iconic characters, fictive narratives, and personal symbols while drawing on historical, social, and political issues in a charged commentary on the complexity and pace of life in the 21st century. This exhibition will feature a high voltage site-specific mural installation wrapping approximately 100 linear feet of wall space in what will become a distinctive environment for special programs.
