Organized by MOCA Cleveland; Curated by Megan Lykins Reich, Director of Education and Associate Curator
William D. Ginn Gallery
Lorri Ott's small-scale accumulations of resin, pigment, fiber, and found objects are abstract studies that coalesce into evocative objects. Ott creates visual solutions to formal problems by balancing color, line, form, and texture in discreet and compelling ways. Yet, Ott includes found objects such as plastic bags and old string that imbue history and symbolism into her artworks. Such organic detritus contrasts dramatically with the slick resin incorporated into each work. Ott's assemblages function as both objects and subjects. As objects, the works demonstrate Ott's sophisticated approach to abstraction's concern with balance and form. As subjects, these quiet but powerful works bear allusions to conflict, attrition, endurance, and renewal.
