The Fluid Terrain : Perception and the Photographic Image On view June 3rd, 2011 through August 14th, 2011
Organized by MOCA Cleveland; Curated by Margo Ann Crutchfield, Senior Curator
Marjorie Talalay and Peter B. Lewis Galleries
This exhibition explores the fluid terrain of perception and how artists navigate the space between objectively recorded reality and reality subjectively filtered through one's personal or collective experience. Approximately twelve Ohio-based artists are represented, each in depth with a recent body of photographs, throughout 7,500 feet of gallery space. The works address concrete philosophical and social ideas, often using subtle or understated approaches. Though largely representational, much of the work verges on abstraction and is steeped in illusion and metaphor. Underlying themes of beauty and decay are prominent issues in much of the work as are interconnecting dichotomies relating to the natural and manmade world. Final artist selection to be announced in September 2010.
