MOCA CLEVELAND CUSTOMIZES LEARNING. Tuesday through Friday from 9 - 11am, MOCA Cleveland transforms itself into a private classroom exclusively for K-12 learning. The ExSCHOOLsive Hours program is suited for teachers looking to maximize student engagement with the art and ideas of today through customized, focused, organized experiences within a variety of museum spaces. ExSCHOOLsive Hours grants access to teachers and students before public hours, giving them uninterrupted time for deep and meaningful instruction. It also gives greater flexibility in field-trip planning, allowing groups to return to school by lunchtime or include another UCI institution after their visit to MOCA Cleveland.
Although guided school tours are welcome during regular public hours, ExSCHOOLsive Hours provide safe and uninterrupted time with MOCA Cleveland’s art and staff. This time also allows for extended tours, hands-on activities, and engaging with the building in unexpected ways. Schools are welcome free of charge at all times. Hands-on activities may have fees and limited group size. All school visits must book tours at least three weeks in advance.
MOCA Cleveland offers three main types of tours during these hours:
ART + ARCHITECTURE: With equal focus on the building and the exhibitions, Art & Architecture tours consider the objects and ideas in relation to the Museum's innovative space. Open to Pre-K – 12 and college classes; maximum group size: 45; free to K-12 and college classes.
DEEP DIVE: Each season, MOCA Cleveland’s Education staff identifies key themes and enduring understandings for the exhibitions on view. Teachers may select a tour exploring one of these themes or understandings. Contact Nicole Ledinek for information on current themes. Open to Pre-K – 12 and college classes; maximum group size: 45; free to K-12 and college classes.
SEE + DO: Half tour, half hands-on activity, these 2-hour visits allow students to apply what they learn through creative new expressions using an array of materials and processes. Activities are designed with students in mind; teachers are encouraged to identify a suggested curricular relationship, theme, or learning outcome. Open to Pre-K – 12 and college classes; maximum group size: 30; fees may apply.
