Join artists Michael Smith and Michelle Grabner for the opening of Smith's work in The Suburban at MOCA Cleveland. A reprodution of the 8'x8' gallery space attached to Grabner's home, The Suburban will feature a rotation of artist's work throughout the Main Gallery exhibition, Michelle Grabner: I Work From Home. Free admission, snacks, and cider as you meet and talk with the artists.
Michael Smith (1951, Chicago) lives and works in Austin, TX, and is an influential figure in performance, video, and installation art. Since delivering his first public performance Comedy Hour in 1975, Smith has gone on to develop a compelling lexicon of characters that resurface in both his live and filmed performances. The Suburban at MOCA Cleveland will feature Smith's recent work Avuncular Quest (2011/2013), a mixed media piece that is a step towards the development of a larger installation work entitled Fountain, an ongoing project grappling with the timeworn theme of the quest for youth.
