Get to know the new Museum of Contemporary Art during this two-day event, especially for educators, and discover the many ways learning happens at MOCA Cleveland. As a Museum without a collection, changing exhibitions offers opportunities for students to hone critical thinking skills, shape personal voice, and to work collaboratively. For this first Educator Open House in MOCA’s iconic new building, break out sessions will demonstrate ways for teachers to utilize new new art and cutting edge architecture into classroom and museum visits. Educators can drop in anytime over the weekend but are encouraged to register for breakout sessions on art conservation, inspired geometry, exhibition tours, sound experiments, art making workshops, or  to learn about free preK-12 tours and transportation assistance.

This event is free to educators with a school ID. All educators receive free museum admission and a contemporary art resource packet. Open to educators of all disciplines and age groups.
 
BREAKOUT SESSION SCHEDULE:
 
SATURDAY / 11:30am 
Welcome + Education Program Introductions
Did you know MOCA offers preK-12 groups free admission, guided tours, and transportation assistance?  This short presentation introduces the exSCHOOLsive Hours, teacher resources, utilizing museum education rooms, and how to customize activities to meet your curriculum goals. 
 
SATURDAY / 12-1pm
Exhibition + Architecture Tour
Explore the inaugural exhibition, Inside Out and From the Ground Up featuring artwork which activates, imagines, or projects into real or imagined space. This inquiry-based tour, led by MOCA educators, demonstrates MOCA’s approach to gallery teaching using the Visual Thinking Strategies method.
 
SATURDAY / 1:15-2pm
Symbol of Education Art Making
Roll up your sleeves to create a personal expression of the value of teachers in this art production workshop. Led by MOCA educators, teachers discuss their role as teachers, impact on students, and how to stay inspired. Take home and display your artwork as a reminder of the important work you do each day.  
 
SATURDAY / 1:15-2pm
High Schoolers @ MOCA
Teaching artist, Darrelle Centuori, demonstrates activities and lessons, inspired by contemporary art and MOCA’s architecture and drawn from the Core Standards, especially for 9th-12th grade. Get to know the many ways MOCA is just right for your high school students. 
 
SATURDAY / 2:15-3pm

SATURDAY / 3:15-4pm
Sound Experiments
Explore the dynamic spaces of MOCA’s new building through another sense--hearing. MOCA’s resident musician, Chris Auerbach Brown, will lead this hands-on workshop investigating how the building materials, surfaces, and spaces impact and create sounds. Examples of activities and discussions to do on site with your students will be shared. 
 
SATURDAY / 4-4:45pm
Early Childhood @ MOCA
Teaching artist for the Cleveland Museum of Art, Rae Burke, demonstrates activities and lessons, inspired by contemporary art and MOCA’s architecture and drawn from the Core Standards, especially for pre-K to 2nd graders. Get to know the many ways MOCA is just right for your early childhood students.
