Kate Gilmore + CIA
The performance will occur in free areas of the museum
Five women, five pedestals, five ceramic vessels. This is the basis for artist Kate Gilmore's newest performance, a directed work that will take place for the full duration of one museum day at MOCA Cleveland this Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 11am to 5pm. Five female students from the Cleveland Institute of Art have been selected to perform this endurance-based work. Wearing identical black feminine dresses, each subject will occupy a white, 4 x 4 x 4 foot pedestal while always touching large ceramic vessel also on the plinth. With references to several of Gilmore's previous works, including her most recent piece Love 'Em, Leave 'Em (2012), on view in MOCA Cleveland's main gallery, this performance considers and relates notions of time, work, gender, art, museum experience, and the absurdities of contemporary life.
Students performers include Annmarie Suglio, Rachel Yurkovich, Cassandra Opaskar, Ashley Fiasco, and Jamie Ausperk. This performance will occur in both free and ticketed areas of the museum.
