LEGO and
the LOBBY

August 2, 2013 / 11:00amAugust 4, 2013 / 5:00pm

Free and open to all

From Friday, August 2 untill Sunday, August 4, local artist Arthur Gugick will activate Julia Christensen's installation, THE FUTURE IS IN THE LOBBY, with his Lego art. For Realization is Better than Anticipation, Christensen created an interactive artwork made of 55, 3D-printed plastic pieces for MOCA Cleveland's Gund Commons. Combined one particular way they spell out the work's title, but they can be reconfigured for a variety of activities. During the exhibition, artists and cultural groups are invited to use this free and open museum space while they incorporate the pieces as building blocks.

Arthur Gugick is a Cleveland-based high school math teacher with the ambitious hobby of creating complex models out of the quarter million Lego bricks he owns. They take the form of famous architectural landmarks, such as the Taj Mahal, and renowned images from art history and pop culture. Gugick’s works will be displayed in MOCA’s Gund Commons. The artist also will integrate components of THE FUTURE IS IN THE LOBBY into his presentation.
