LOADED is a music series incorporating experimental elements of performance art, avant rock, punk, and electronic music. Guest curated by R.A. Washington (Mourning A BLKstar, Guide to Kulchur Press), Haley Morris (Kiernan Paradise) and Lisa Miralia (Mysterious Black Box on WCSB Radio), this series brings together sound artists from our region and beyond to perform on MOCA's loading dock. This is music that deluges the senses. You don't wade in, you dive.

Mourning [A] BLKstar wants to communicate their vision and love for the community while collectively generateing greater opportunities to create and share. R.A. Washington was left bewildered after the murder of his close friend. He felt reflective and drifted into a creative crisis. Disillusioned by the idea of making a living as an artist, he was unsure if his future as a poet and beat maker was sustainable. He knew that he needed a new spark -- new voices around him-- and he soon found it as he invited long-time friends, LaToya Kent and James Long, to record over new beats, crafted in honor of his lost friend. It was not long before the group began to realize that they had something special. After bringing Jazz singer Kyle Kidd into the mix, they began to record their first record, "Blk Musak," which explores a conversation between iconic symbols and symbols that have historically sustained marginalized people-- the heart of black music.

MuAmin Collective started as a concept - rapid fire critical thought over beats. Simple? Not as easy as it is said, but over the last 15 years what started as a concept has become praxis. A-Live is a scientist with the MPC, ZiON is visionary in the crafting of song and that chemistry is what Hip-Hop is all about. Their 4 studio albums showcase dense poetics, and sonics drawing from the primordial pool of American music.  The two have recently collaborated with drummer Neil Chastain, Guitarist Mike McNamara and Jacob Wynne (Trumpet) and the prodigious Eli Hanley (Keys/synth bass), putting together a live band to interpret MuAmin's catalog. The fruits of their labor are evident in the 8 song EP DiG (2016) released on ABSNFC (Amsterdam). The title track features Zion's brother and LMNTL emcee, Jungle Jim, and the expanded collective are currently recording a new album expected this fall.

The LOADED Concert Series is sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio
