Job objective
The Donor Stewardship Director cultivates and maintains relationships with individual and corporate donors, overseeing the full life cycle of donor stewardship activities to ensure ongoing engagement and sustained financial support. This position plays a central role in fundraising: developing, nurturing, and managing mutually beneficial philanthropic relationships to strengthen the museum’s financial position and overall advancement strategy.
Duties &
responsibilities
Oversees the museum’s “moCa Now” donor stewardship program, managing a portfolio of individual and corporate donors, crafting compelling stewardship plans tailored to donor interests, motivations, and the museum’s priorities, building a pipeline of prospects, and achieving institutional fundraising goals for each group, achieving renewal retention rates of >80% as well as success securing annual individual gifts up to $10,000and corporate gifts up to $25,000.
Collaborates with the Chief Advancement Officer to secure sustainable funding beyond the moCa Now program through customized donor cultivation, special sponsorships, and innovative fundraising initiatives.
Develops and executes a comprehensive, data-driven fundraising program to identify, qualify, and cultivate donors capable of substantial financial contributions.
Creates and executes strategies to engage emerging donor groups, expand outreach efforts, and transition highly engaged donors into major gift prospects, increasing their support over time.
Implements and documents the donor stewardship process, ensuring a consistent and concierge experience from initial discovery to personalized acknowledgements, strengthening donor relationships through comprehensive donor relations plans while re-engaging lapsed members.
Leads the planning and coordination of donor stewardship for development events with the Special Events and Development Programming Manager to meet fundraising, budget, and sponsorship goals.
Tracks and reports on donor stewardship activities, helping to analyze metrics to refine strategies, identify growth opportunities, guide tactical and operational decisions, identifying trends and patterns.
Manages assigned budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial guidelines.
Demonstrates proficiency in project management and integrates organizational strategy with business operations to achieve objectives effectively.

Minimum
qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree.
Experience: 5+ years of direct development/fundraising experience in a non-profit role, with a focus on donor relations and stewardship.
Experience: Proven track record of successfully managing and growing relationships with individual donors resulting in sustainable gifts
Preferred experience: Strong ability to identify and evaluate new fundraising opportunities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategically pursuing relevant funding prospects.
Travel (local): Reliable transportation and a valid Driver's license.

Fundraising Management: Has a working knowledge of fundraising budgets, funding types, categorizing income sources, and generating basic reports.
Independence: Learns and executes tasks autonomously, develops and optimizes processes for efficiency, consistently maintains exceptional focus to complete tasks independently, and makes well-informed decisions with minimal oversight.
People Management: Collaborates and fosters strong team relationships, provides structured coaching and developmental feedback to direct reports, and actively participates in and contributes to team development initiatives/goals.
Reliability: Reliably fulfills obligations, consistently meets or exceeds deadlines, and proactively contributes to refining and improving established policies and procedures.
Tech & Tools: Uses computer systems and programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, DonorPerfect, EventBrite) with competency and efficiency.
Writing/Editing: Possesses advanced writing and editing skills - creates strategic content plans and executes them with precision to achieve organizational objectives, leads content creation projects, overseeing the drafting and editing process with excellence, innovates content, incorporating best practices and emerging trends to optimize engagement and impact.
